long time listener... first time caller

final.jpg

this is a bent plywood table i designed and constructed for a furniture class at Tennessee. the idea was to create a table that with minimal parts that would express the beauty and structure of laminated wood. the 2 part table is almost 6 feet long and 2 feet deep. the ends are at a 30 degree angle from the floor. basically it is a 1/2 inch thick piece of wood that ripples and twists with a piece of glass resting on top. the models, computer design, construction of mold, molding of the wood, sanding and finishing was completed just short of a semester. for those who question it's ability to function. it is entirely self-supporting and is strong enough for people to sit on!

p.s. hope this picture isn't to large

how tall is this?

i originally thought it to be a dining table, but as i now realize its scale, it probably wouldn't work for that. also, where did you get that glass and how much was it? what do you plan to do with it? a side table in a hallway? a desk? just curious

ps i am very jealous of the fact that you got to do this, i guess it is about time to open up our furniture design studioj and get our own plywood molding set up.

pps everybody, welcome my boy john thurman to the blog, he just graduated from UT this year with a degree in architecture, so now we have out first architect member.
