dearest designers
10.29 UPDATE::
if we could have a moment of silence for a great computer and friend, and all the work i just lost. . . . . . . thank you.
Previous Entry 10.27:
my fellow mac friends. I regret to inform you all, that my sweet iMac is on it's death bed. It is, as i speak, on the dreaded "bench" at Perry computers. It doesnt look good and i would apprecciate everones prayers. I havent backed up in a while and i have certain things on there that i will no doubt, never see again, if Dr. errr technician Philip cant get to my hard drive.
thank you. and love your macs (and back them up) while you can.
regretfully yours,
graham

finally, the new desk has arrived...

well folks, there it is. a little different than my initial intent at the start of the weekend, but after a trip to an Oak Ridge Auction, and finding those legs (solid aluminium) and drawers (i made the fronts) on another desk that i got for $1 (A DOLLAR, a whole desk for a DOLLAR, the drawer slides alone are worth more than that! i digress) i decided to do it this way, and probably for the better because now i have a great set off drawers to go with my desk and i needed the extra storage space anyhow.
also one more thing to notice on the image above: look at the way my powerbook box that is below the desk lines up between the bottom brace and the top, kinda crazy with the actual computer above it. looks like some kind of mirror or something.

note that amount of metal under this thing, there is nothing you can put on this that will make it flex, also, it ended up weighing in at about 50+ pounds, but thats ok, as long as it is rigid.
also, the metal pieces that are closest to the edges are what the drawers hang off of, kinda cool, and gives a great look

battling the great white
this past weekend was by far the best weather the south has seen so far this fall and hence brought a large group of climbers out of the woodwork and into the pens. a group of us decided that it would be a good day to battle great white, but in the end only one of us would come out on top... raja. nice climbing
just thought i would post to give people something to look at.

a couple of things
just thought this was funny and relevant to us (us being steph and angie mainly)
if you are not interested in my quest to find out the history of my chair that i posted earlier you probably won't be interested in reading on!
so i finally got some time to do some research myself on my modern chair and while i searched and searched through some 2500 images i still haven't found my exact match, although i think i have some good leads.

this chair seems pretty similar in form to my chair but also noticably different. here is what i found on the website with this image:
Tatlin chair by Vladimir Tatlin: Tatlin was the founder of the Russian Constructivist School of Design, which emphasized structure over aesthetic appeal - an approach to design that was allied to production. The leather-covered molded foam seat is clearly reminiscent of a tractor seat.
this next on I think is more on the track than anything else, but i am having trouble finding more images, i'll explain below...

Super Z chair by Paul Tuttle: The Super Z chair is a dynamic composition that pairs stainless steel with gently curved wood. Designed in 1996, it is the culmination of an idea Tuttle began exploring with the 'Z' Chair in the 1960s and for which he won the prestigious Carson Pirie Scott Young Designer Award in 1966.
Consistent with all of Tuttle’s designs—elegant, sophisticated, refined, delightful—the Super Z chair is as functional as it is inventive and beautiful.
see what i think is... (and this is a big thought) that my chair is related to this one, maybe the one from 1966 or maybe this has been a continued exploration and this one is from another year, but you know, i kinda had a feeling that this chair is problably called z or s or something like that and i think that this chair would probably fit into the timeline of the z chair series, i just have to find it. also, i think that the fact that i can't really find anything about this chair kinda makes me want to find it more and more.
just for reference here is a picture of the chair again

also, i found a great site that i spent 5+ hours looking through to find the chairs that i did, unfortunately probably part of the reason i spent 5+ hours is because the sites navigation is in Dutch, luckily most of the descriptions are in english. but i have posted a link below for anyone interested.
