mandai logo take two

mandailogo-3.29.jpg

ok, so one of the main comments from richard was that the flower was trying to hard, like with the green, and looking like a florist logo instead of an asian restaurant. so here we go. im trying to make it not so much like a letterform by moving it below the baseline. but when i go below im not so sure about the leaf.

senior thesis

so this is the logo for my senior thesis. (and an excerpt from my lettter of proposal so u can understand what i am doing) it's an asian restaurant/bar called mandai. comments please!

weblogo.jpg

"For my Senior Thesis project I propose to execute an identity campaign for the new restaurant “Mandai.” The restaurant is a hip and trendy Asian restaurant/bar located in downtown New York City. Mandai is a restaurant/bar that serves college students and local professionals. The menu is pricey and the bar is competitive with other local bars offering a more high-class nightlife experience.
Lunch will market primarily to local business through take out and delivery. Mandai’s lunch menu features their fresh Asian salads, soup, and tea as well as sandwiches, wraps, and other hot items.
In the evenings, the restaurant becomes a lively night scene serving as both wet bar and sushi bar. The bar will serve mixed drinks, beer, wine, and sake. The sushi bar will serve all kinds of Japanese sushi from basic California rolls to Futomaki and Unagi. The menu for the night will also include large entrées and appetizers. All the food will be hip and fresh.
Along with the bar, one of the main attractions is live music. Mandai will feature local bands during the week and feature widely known bands on weekends.
The identity campaign’s goal is to brand the new restaurant as the hippest place in town: fresh, clean, and trendy. Mandai wants to reflect New York’s energy while incorporating an Asian influenced design. "

Red Rock Golden Ginger Ale

redrock.jpg

this is my logo for senior project. it is suppose to represent the word "experience". i am pretty set on the mark but the type below it i am a bit skeptic about. i don't want my type to be plain but it has to ofcourse be easily readable while being viewed small. any comments will be helpful.

to answer winslow's questions.
the thing in the mark is acually the back of a rocking chair. i put 2 backs in the mark to show motion. the side is popping out of the chair to show movement thats not only side to side. im glad you see an abstract back, thats what i was going for.
Red Rock is coming out of its shell and becoming national (from a local market in ATL). it is the only ginger ale made with pure sugar cane. it burns going down your throat, to give a unique sensation. i do not want a tame mark. its suppose to be kind of exciting and make you "experience" something without having to think about it. my market is 25-40. i do not want anything childish or too punk but i also do not want anything that is too plain. hope this helps.

Craghead Again

CRAGHEAD 5.6 Beta

here is installment number two of the redesign, still only the Horse Pens page works, but i have tweaked the design, and added some functionality to the way you navigate the photos. You can now both browse through them, or go directly to the photo by the name of the climb featured in the photo. Also, i have changed the buttons in the map again, and i think that this is the way they will be for final, although they may need some tweeking on the way they appear and disappear.

So one of the biggest changes i have made between the last version and this version is the use of an XML file to bring in data as opposed the the TXT file i was using before. This has allowed me to store much more data and add lots of functionality with just a bit of work up front, and very little later on. An example of what i mean, is that when i want to change photos in the website, i don't have to touch the flash file, all i have to do is upload the photos (i don't even have to resize them to an exact size because of phpThumb (it resizes the photos for me) and add a line to the xml file, and WHAMMO the photo shows up when you view the site. and i could, and might even make it to where i can do all this online, where i would fill out a form and upload a file, and it would add the entry to the XML file. and i wouldn't even have to worry with the uploading stuff.

you can see the xml file here and if you view it in anything but IE you will have to view source to see what it looks like.

also, angie, i did get the buttons to work as movie clips finally and dynamically change the text for them. What solved the problem i was having was changing the action from onMouseUp to onRelease, for some reason, onMouseUp just looked for a MouseUp anwhere on the stage. i don't know...

brace yourself as fickle winslow prepares to change his mind, AGAIN

Last week when i posted the last ones, and read the comments back about them, i wasn't sure i agreed, and am still not (i still really like the large logo with the little type underneath it) but after a bit more tweaking on the original idea, i do like it the best and is the one i will try to convince my client to choose. My only problem with the original, that the last way of doing it helps, is that the mark would not stay together if you rolled it down a hill, and the house doesn't feel very stable or robust, and that is where having the shape below adds the implication of sides that are missing to help you visually finish the house, and with the type forced to the same width below it, helps you feel that the house is a solid structure and helps the logo to stay together.
