cary got another photo on digital sucks, DANG IT!!!!
see it here
its hard to imagine a getting a better day than today to go climbing this time of year. with temperatures in the upper 40s i just couldn't sit inside and do school work, or at least sit and think about how much i have to do and not really get anything done. so this afternoon i hit up the boulderfields and went climbing for the first time in 2 weeks. it was a pretty good day, it seems i didn't have much endurance, but i did two things i hadn't done before today, one of them was static the crux of reignition (which is really cool, and makes the problem look much easier, and probably makes it easier. i also did a few different slabby face climbs and worked Tommy H. pretty hard. My middle knuckle kinda took one for the team so i stopped trying it and moved on.

but it was still a good day.
i know i am way behind the times, but somehow i started listening to Coldplay's cold... head album before i listened to parachutes. i just can't get enough of parachutes now, think i listen to it every time i sit at my computer now, what a great album, every song is more beautiful then the one before it, and just when you think it can't get any better, well, IT DO's.
ok back to real work (thats what i tell myself)
as amazing as this may seem, i uploaded a bunch more photos from my trip to DC and a few from my climbing trip in january that were left in the camera. they aren't on the main site yet, because i didn't feel like taking the time to build those pages so i let photoshop do it for me. HERE it is.
today was a good day, i got to eat lunch and hang out with angie because she is in town on spring break, i also saw david and steph. and i had time tonight to got to books and co. and read the latest climbing mags to get me pumped to go sometime soon (since i haven't been since i videoed reignition). maybe i will be productive on design projects tomorrow! wish me luck!
back in "birmingbeef" (if you've driven I-65 south thru the city you get the joke, if not, come to birmingham to get it, sorry)
another note on THE digitals: when i got home today i looked through them again and picked out the ones i really liked and wanted to put up on the web and realized that there were more good ones than i thought at first which is good! so they are here for all to see. i think one of the things that i realized upon my second glance at these photos was that a lot the times i visualize what i want to take pictures of in black and white so when i finally see them and they are in color, i don't really liek them. so i have converted the ones that i wanted to be black and white to start with to black and white and that has made all the difference. (kinda sounds like Robert Frost) so the gallery contains alot of shots from the hip (if the digital isn't good for that what is it good for) also some shots of people running, because that is all they seem to do in DC, i also put in some shots of some of my favorite works i saw at the national gallery, and a series of fir trees taken today along I-75 in tennessee while driving.
also i took my 3 35mm rolls and my 2 120 rolls by today and they will be ready tomorrow, so maybe some more stuff will show up online soon, liek some holgas maybe?! man i really need to put those up. speaking of holgas cary got another one up on digital sucks which make the score CARY-5 ME-2. cary also has some other really cool holgas of war demonstations in knoxville here, they are really cool so check them out.
nothing much else to note except that at the Rising Fawn exit off I-59 in georgia there is a texaco station that has really cheap gas and inside that texaco station is a soda fountain from which you can get 44oz's of you favorite beverage for just $1.09, thats right, what a deal! so if you are in the neighborhood stop by. just realize that you will be stopping again pretty soon!
one last thing and then you can go, if you really liek radiohead like i do and you want some live concerts check out these sites:
cuttooth
rhead
injektilo
okbye
well, the D.C. trip is over now, john and i are back in knoxville for the night then back to birmingham tomorrow so that john can make it to his big screen debut on friday afternoon. i have about 300 digital photos from the trip and so does john along with the three or four rolls of film that i shot between my 6 cameras that i had with me, (some rolls are unfinished) but i will try and get that kinda stuff up during the weekend sometime if i get them back by then, because once my semester starts back i really will not have almost anytime for anything but school. kinda sad to think about.
a note on the digitals: i looked through them all for the first time tonight and there weren't many that really seemed to catch my eye, but i did get a lot of photos of random people around so i think that if i was to look back on these photos in 10, 20, or 30+ years they would probably be alot more interesting ( maybe they will be a famous series after i am dead)
TO RECAP: dc wasn't all that i expected it to be, we didn't get in any riots or even protests, everything seemed peaceful, there were no scares while we were there, probably the craziest thing close to that stuff we saw were the snipers on the white house. so we had alot of fun hangin out in dc and georgetown, and with kara, and her Real World house living experience, but really it was a pretty normal trip.
I am looking forward to relaxing and really getting some good sleep over the next couple of days and weekend.
i hope everyone is doing good! ciao
well, DC is a little less exciting than i thought it would be considering all the war protests and what not, but we (john and i) have not seen one protest against the war yet. we did see mary todd and abraham lincoln at the lincoln memorial, and i took johns picture with them. well also saw lots of other crazy people and stuff which we photographed. the weather has been awesome and today we are headed out to the national gallery to see a mattise cut out exhibit and all the other awesome stuff that is there, we saw some chuck close, warhol, pollock, jasper johns, and many more yesterday. ok, time to go, more later, maybe
MIDTERM IS OVER! TIME FOR SPRING BREAK!
john yam and i are off to washington dc tomorrow by way of knoxville, should be fun...
still working on those holgas, but i might just wait until after i get film back from this trip because there will probably be more from it.
nothing else exciting going on really, except for cary's accident which you can read about on his website. or at least you could until he took it down for a redesign! oh well, let just leave it at this, a board fell and hit him in the head, lots of blood, lots of pictures, and he is fine now. ok, g'night
today is midterm crit for senior thesis, wish me luck! OR DON'T, I DON'T CARE!!!!!!!!!! oh, sorry, i need sleep.......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzz.....huh uh what, no i wasn't sleeping i was doing thumbnails. oh, im at home, what a nightmare!
OFFICE SPACE, what a great movie, i mean, almost every line is quoteable, for instance, "why should i change my name, he's the one that sucks," or "hey peter man, check out channel nine!" good times, good times
i started to scan some holgas today, but it is time consuming and it seems that time is [not] on my side (Rolling Stones) and the scanner is very tempermental (sp?) so i kinda gave up after just a few, and there are still quite a few more that i want to scan, maybe once midterm crit for senior thesis is over i can get to it, but untill then it is Safer Schools Society all the time, except for when it is Executive Traveler all the time and about to become Portico all the time.
tune in tomorrow, same lame blog, same old site!
so i have had this disorder for quite a while now (read: my whole life), the disorder is a form of procrastination which is effected by daylight more than anything else. you see i just can't work hardly at all during the day unless i absolutely have to (read: i am at work) it doesn't even matter if i am in class, i would rather sit and daydream than actually do work so i wouldn't have to do it later. but i just seem to work so much better once everyone else is asleep and there is really nothing else to do but sit down and work. that is the time that i do my best thinking, reading, it is the time that i am at my most creative! this is really a serious problem that i would like to over come, so if any of the two people that read this have any suggestions, let me hear them.
also of note, cary norton has been back in b'ham this weekend, so of course there has been some photog'ing going on. i finally finished up a roll of holga left over from january, and i shot a roll in my new (old) Yashica Mat EM which i will be taking in to Cameras (make me) Broke-wood for processing and prints which if they turn out nice will then be scanned and uploaded to the site. i did get the holgas back that graham and i shot last week and some of them turned out pretty good so those will be up soon, probably when the others go up.
one last thing to note, there is a new digital gallery up, and it is pretty big and i really like alot of the pics (not that i don't really liek the pics i picked for the other galleries, but these are especially note worthy, or at least they seem so right now, probably in a few weeks i will be kinda like "why did i put these up?" and then a month after that i will be saying "man those were just awful!" and then a year later, i will say, "i should really take those off the site before someone sees them." but by then it will be too late and everyone (no one) will have seen them and i will be the laughing stock of the internet community. (man that was a good ramble) i should really be going to sleep now, but like i said earlier, i work best at this time, and tonight is no exception, but the morning is going to be most unsatisfactory!
there is nothing like waking up and immediately having to defend the deep obscure meanings of the spaces of your design. it definitely is not my favorite way to start my day. but thankfully it is over now and i can rest and relax about it for a few more days. also my dad is coming in town tonight so i will get to eat a good dinner! YEAH!!
also graham and i shot a bunch of hopefully (cross your fingers) really cool holga shots with the white lightnings (strobes) the other night, and she is getting them back today! if they turn out good they will definitely be up in the next few days. [whew! the excitement]
ok, back to thumbnails...
is it a bad sign when...?
you drink two cups of coffee and an hour later you are ready for bed?
also, my ears are lower than they were this morning
oh man...
if you have access to some strobes and a D100, you should totally take advantage of it and play, maybe some pics from my experience will show up on the site soon. also using a crappy digital with a strobe slave can make some really cool overexposed shots. GOOD TIMES!! good times!!!
another day, another way to procrastinate...
i went back out to the boulderfields today, since my astronomy lab got out early, so that i could get video of my sending Reignition, a V9 boulder problem. And if that isn't enough, i then edited it and put it up on my climbing site. so if you are at this site because you are interested in bouldering, then click here. if not click here.
also, cary has arrived back in the country, so be on the look out for a guy constantly snapping pictures with a lomo lc-a.
ok, enough already, time to work...
yes, well i know the design of this just doesn't quite fit with my site, but i really don't know html like i should, and the only way to change what this looks like is to change it on the site that sets it all up for me, so until i learn a thing or two about html, looks like this page will kinda suck. ok bye
well, after cary mentioned to me that he wished more of his friends would keep a blog like him, so i finally decided that i would take up the challenge and try it out, so here it is. and i will try and actually keep up with it as much as i can.
